The creation of this movie is what I call a fruit of a great alliance – when two of my favorite artists work together: this time is about Saiorse Ronan and Greta Gerwig. It’s been a while since I appreciate the talent of Saoirse Ronan. She was still a kid when she interpreted Briony in Atonement in 2007. Since then I couldn’t stop following her work.
My fondness for Greta Gerwig is more recent. Even though I had already watched as an actress in other movies, it was in Frances Ha that I got dizzy in love with her talent, and this love continued ever since. So, with Greta and Saoirse working together, it just couldn’t be better.
In my opinion, this is a great indie movie. I loved since the first scene Greta directing Saoirse worked really well. The cinematography is great as well as the entire soundtrack.
Lady Bird is about a confident teenager girl (interpreted by Saiorse Ronan) who creates her own name – Lady Bird – and ignores her real one – Christine. The first part of the movie is about the invention of that special name. It shows us a rebel girl full of strength against the world and with her own ideas.
As any other rebel teenager she argues with her mother most of the time. They have a complicated relationship and her mother tends to reject her in some way.
Lady Bird is the story of a normal girl who has a best friend and apparently a normal family, and then falls in love with a boy. Nothing new for a movie. But along the story this strong girl reveals herself as a lost human being with selfish attitudes and that in reality has no idea about what the heck she wants.
A girl who loves someone can also have a broken heart. With her rebellious attitudes she unconsciously (or not) puts away her best friend. For a girl who wanted to be different she just falls into the trap and starts acting the same as everyone around her. She starts using lies and trying to be someone she wasn’t. She will then discover that everything was going in the wrong way.
In the end, Lady Bird starts living her adult life. By then she realises the wrong steps she took in the past and returns to the reality. She reveals that she is actually is a sweet girl with a melted heart who after all loved everyone who was around her all the time.
There’s no need for lies or to change your attitudes to be different and be someone in life. By doing so, we run into for the danger of almost losing the people we love. To fight for your dreams you just have to be yourself. This movie just teaches us that in a simple and a beautiful way.

A criação deste filme é o resultado daquilo a que eu chamo fruto de uma grande aliança – quando dois dos meus artistas favoritos estão trabalham juntos. Já há muito que aprecio o talento de Saoirse Ronan, ela era ainda uma criança como Briony no filme de expiação em 2007. Não consegui parar de seguir o seu trabalho desde então.
O meu amor por Greta Gerwig é mais recente. Mesmo já tendo antes visto alguns papéis em outros filmes, foi desde Frances Ha que fiquei apaixonada pelo seu talento. Então, Greta e Saoirse a trabalhar juntas não podia ser mais autêntico.
Na minha opinião, este é um óptimo filme indie que gostei logo desde a primeira cena. Greta a dirigir Saoirse resultou muito bem. A cinematografia é óptima, bem como toda a banda sonora escolhida.
Lady Bird é uma adolescente confiante que criou o seu próprio nome e ignorou o verdadeiro – Christine. Ao longo da primeira parte do filme, a invenção desse nome e também algumas das suas atitudes mostram-nos uma miúda rebelde cheia de força contra o mundo e com suas próprias idéias. Como uma comum adolescente rebelde, ela discute imenso com a sua mãe com quem tem um relacionamento complicado e tende a rejeitá-la de alguma forma.
Lady Bird é uma menina que se apaixonou por um menino; ela tem uma melhor amiga e aparentemente uma família normal. Nada de novo para um filme. Mas essa menina forte revelou-se num ser humano egoísta e perdido que, na realidade, não tem idéia do que raio ela quer.
Uma miúda que se apaixona pela primeira vez também pode ter depois um coração partido. Então, ela continua a ser rebelde e depois inconscientemente (ou não) afasta a sua melhor amiga. E para uma menina que queria ser diferente, simplesmente cai na armadilha de ser igual a toda as outras à sua volta. Usando mentiras e tentando ser quem não é, ela vai descobrir que tudo estava a ir pelo caminho errado.
No final, Lady Bird começará a viver sua vida adulta. Percebe então os passos errados que deu atrás e regressa à realidade. Revelando-nos que ela é uma menina doce com um coração derretido que, afinal, ama todos os que estavam à sua volta o tempo todo.Não há necessidade de mentiras ou de correr o risco de perder pessoas que amamos. Este filme ensina-nos de uma forma simples e bonita que que basta continuar a lutar pelos nossos sonhos, sem deixar-mos de ser nós próprios.
