The Florida Project is at the same time an intense and beautiful movie. It is a story about a 6-year-old girl and her friends during the summer break. The entire movie is filled with their adventures while the adults around them are struggling with serious issues. The story happens mostly between two motels in Florida – but especially in a purple one. Many scenes occur under the supervision of Bobby (Willem Dafoe) who had a great performance as a manager of the place.

Moonie is the leading kid in this movie along with two friends who live in the same motel as her and later another girl from another nearby motel. The story follows the daily adventures of the kids during holidays living in a place with too little to do. They have a lot of fun as well as creating troubles all the time.

In some scenes it is shocking to see how the kids are so mannerless and how it is a real issue in so many places nowadays as a result of the lack of supervision by the parents. This movie is definitely an alert of how a bad education can induce naïve kids acting so wrong.

Halley (Bria Vinaite) is a young mother who loves her daughter and supports both of them by receiving some guests every night in her motel room – getting money for sex. The relationship between the mom and Moonee is adorable and it’s noticeable how much they love each other.

In the most part of the movie we cannot notice the presence of any man in the room because every time it’s happening, the little girl appears bathing and playing with toys while loud music is playing in the background. And that’s the way to hide the sex scenes and sounds. All of that became unconsciously part of our imagination because not even a scene is shown. In the end and as a result of the acts of Haley, the predictable outcome happened.

I can say this movie is a colorful movie to hide a dark reality. It is an alert and it is also a love story about friendship. Even though the kids play out as extremely rude, they also express the love they feel for each other, namely the friendship between the two girls in the end. The performance of Brooklynn Prince as Moonee is splendid.

The Florida Project é um filme tão intenso quanto bonito. É uma história sobre uma menina de 6 anos e dos seus amigos durante as férias de verão. Todo o filme anda em volta das suas aventuras, enquanto os adultos ao seu redor vivem problemas sérios. A história acontece principalmente entre dois motéis na Flórida – principalmente o rôxo Magic Castle. Muitas das cenas acontecem sob a supervisão de Bobby (Willem Daffoe), que tem neste filme uma excelente performance como gerente do motel.

Moonie é a menina protagonista deste filme, que passa o tempo com dois amigos que vivem no mesmo motel que ela e mais tarde uma outra menina que mora num motel próximo. A história segue as aventuras diárias das crianças durante as férias num lugar com pouco para fazer. Juntos brincam e divertem-se imenso ao mesmo que criam problemas constantemente.

Em algumas cenas, é chocante ver como as crianças são tão mal educadas e como isso é um problema real em muitos lugares hoje em dia – como resultado da falta da supervisão e atenção dos pais. Este filme é definitivamente um alerta de como uma má educação pode induzir crianças ingénuas a agir de forma muito errada no dia-a-dia.

Halley (Bria Vinaite) é uma jovem mãe que ama a filha e sustenta as duas ao receber alguns convidados todas as noites no seu quarto do motel – tendo sexo em troca de dinheiro. A relação entre a mãe e Moonee é adorável e é notável o quanto elas se amam.

Na maior parte do filme, não é possível notar a presença de qualquer homem no quarto. Pois sempre que isso acontece, a menina aparece a tomar banho e a brincar com bonecas, enquanto se ouve música alta a tocar em background. E essa é a forma de esconder as cenas e sons de sexo de uma maneira subtil e sem chocar (a menina e o espectador). Mas tudo isso se torna inconscientemente fruto da nossa imaginação, porque não é mostrada uma única cena. No final, e como consequência dos actos de Haley, o resultado previsível acontece.

Diria que este é um filme colorido para esconder uma realidade negra. É um alerta e também uma história de amor sobre amizade. Mesmo que as crianças sejam extremamente mal educadas, elas também têm a capacidade de expressar o amor que sentem umas pelas outras. Nomeadamente a amizade entre as duas meninas no final. A performance de Brooklynn Prince como Moonee é absolutamente magnífica.
