Zambujeira do Mar

After leaving the zone of Vila Nova de Milfontes, our first day began by visiting the village of Zambujeira do Mar in the morning. We went straight to an amazing spot that allowed us to have a wide view over the beach.

It was breathtaking: the crystal-clear water and all those tones of blue. It looked like something too good to be real – fortunately it was. It was there just in front of our eyes. We stayed for a short while to appreciate that viewpoint and to take some photos.

Amalia’s Beach

After the quick visit above the spot in Zambujeira beach do Mar we continued our way South and explored different places and beaches. We passed by the beautiful beaches of Allteirinhos and Carvalhal and then we adventured on side roads and dirt roads to finally get to the place where we planned to spend the day: Praia da Amalia (Amalia Beach).Praia da Amalia is a small wild unexplored beach that in the past was called Praia do Brejão. The name was changed to Amalia to honor the most famous fado singer in Portugal – Amalia Rodrigues – who had a villa overlooking the beach. It is a beautiful hidden place and a bit difficult to find. It is also hard to get there from the car park (hiking next to a stream through a small forest packed with reeds and then through rocky cliffs) so I wouldn’t take children there or even elderly people. I was very upset during the hike until there which was hard and annoying for me. But this “hard time” is really worth the sacrifice.

The place is amazing, untouched wild nature. It is a perfect spot to spend a beach day as a couple or with some friends. It is comfortably quiet and peaceful, and well protected. The beach lies between cliffs and so there’s no way for the wind to get through. And the best part: the hidden gem: the stream ends up from the cliffs down to the beach forming a small waterfall. So after diving into the salty sea, imagine the feeling of the fresh mountain water passing through your body. A Dream.It was really beautiful day. I must confess that I refused to go the same way back through the swampy reeds (I am a little bit sissy!). So as a result of my stubbornness we got literally lost. We tried to explore and go through another path though the fields. That got us drowned in another adventure for more than an hour until finally we managed to find the main road to get to our car. A recommendation to you guys (particularly if you are as sissy as I am): maybe it is a good idea to always go back the way you know the best. Maybe except if you are a hiker and you are an expert in finding alternative paths.

VICENTINE COAST – ALGARVE

At the end of the day we continued our way and arrived to the Vicentine Coast, which starts in the border between Alentejo and Algarve. We passed through Odeceixe village quick car visit and went to the nearby beach of Odeceixe Mar where we enjoyed the the sunset from the top of the village.

Aljezur // Anchor House

With the sunlight fading in the horizon we continued South passing by the village of Aljezur and then towards the sea to find our second little home/accommodation: Anchor house. It is a guest house close to the Arrifana beach. It is an amazing place to spend a few days and their concept is lovely.It is a real villa /surf house where you have your own room and share some common areas (including a beautiful swimming pool) with the other guests. The hosts describe their house as a place to make friends and it is really true. The hosts are an adorable couple and we were lucky to meet other nice guests with whom we shared dinners, had a good time and very pleasant conversations.

Day 4

Our fourth day began with a homemade breakfast next to the swimming pool to gain energies for our beach day. Just after breakfast we still passed by the market of Aljezur (amazing place) to get some juicy fruits to eat during the day.

Arrifana Beach

But we were not yet ready for the beach. We needed our morning coffee! So once we arrived to the beach of Arrifana we went to this super cosy coffee place called Sea You Surf Cafe. I also got a glass of Kombucha, which made me really happy to start the day since it is a drink I have frequently in Denmark but it is not so easy to find in Portugal.After this energy boost we were ready to spend our day at the beautiful beach of Arrifana. The sunset was enjoyed at the local beach bar a bar with a cocktail to appreciate the moment.

Monte Clérigo

Our evening was spent in one of the most wonderful places I’ve ever been. You know when sometimes you just fall in love with a place and can’t really explain why? Monte Clerigo is one of these places. It is a small town next to the beach and there was something special there that made us feel so comfortable and at home. The entire atmosphere around was just magnetising. Until this we can’t understand or say why.The night came and we went to a bar there to have some drinks while listening to a live music concert in the terrace. It couldn’t have been more perfect.

Day 5

On the fifth day of our holidays the clouds and the wind showed up. Considering this, we preferred to stay at our “new home” and spend the day by the swimming pool. It was a calm day and we took the time to read some books and relax inside.

Day 6

Odeceixe

It was still during the morning that we left the amazing Anchor House in Aljezur. Before going South we took the time to go a little bit back North in the map and visit the little typical village of Odeceixe.It is a small quiet village with narrow streets and colorful facades – perfect to take some photos.

Aljezur // Cervejaria do Mar

We went back to Aljezur to have our lunch that day, in on of the best seafood restaurants I have ever been to: Cervejaria Mar. It had been recommended to us before the trip to eat shellfish and we were counting the days for trying this place.

The restaurant is situated on a main street so it is easy to find. The employees were super nice from the start. The seafood and shellfish were like a gift from the gods – try the barnacles and the shrimps – w.o.w. And all of it was surprisingly cheap. I recommend this place with no doubts and we are surely going back as soon as possible.

Vale Figueiras Beach

After lunch there we continued our aventure. It was the time to visit the beach of Vale Figueiras, which is a few kilometers South from Aljezur. This beach is still a bit far from the main national road (you have to take a dirt road), but again it is a hidden paradise. It has a particularity of having only one tiny fisherman house that sits on the cliff overlooking the beach. It is a nice spot for surf and there are some surfing schools that go there from other towns. There aren’t usually many people on the beach(mostly locals) so it is a calm spot if you want peace and relaxation. We stayed for a few hours enjoying the views before we hit the road again.On our way further South we passed the beach of Bordeira beach to have a quick look – a beautiful setting with agave trees looming on the horizon. We also passed by the small local town of Carrapateira – a surfer’s stop – to enjoy a coffee in a terrace.After Carrapateira the mountain roads started and it took a while to cross to the southern coast of Algarve.

Lagos

It was already getting dark when we were arrived to Lagos. Exhausted from the trip, we went to buy some food and supplies and straight to bed in our new place/accommodation.

Day 7 & 8

Our seventh day of holidays arrived and it looked like everything was happening too fast. We were fascinated by so many places and colors along the trip we couldn’t believe our days of beach were almost ending.

Just after the breakfast we went for the beautiful and famous beach of D. Ana beach where to spend the rest of the day. Although it was a little bit crowded also windy, it still was a perfect day at the beach.

D. Ana BeachAt night we went to the center of Lagos for a walk and visited the city. It was an amazing night and the city is beautiful at that time. It is a lively place and in the center there are plenty of pedestrian small streets to discover, packed with bars and restaurants. There are also many street events, performers, places to have fun and the entire environment around is amazing.It is a great place to spend a few days of vacations also since there are plenty of different beaches around.

Our last day was spent in the beach of Porto de Mos which was next to the place we were staying. We enjoyed our last few hours of beach and of our holidays before we left Algarve and got back home. I am missing everything.

Zambujeira do Mar

Depois de deixar a zona de Vila Nova de Milfontes, começámos o dia a visitar a aldeia da Zambujeira do Mar.  Fomos directos a um lugar maravilhoso com vista sobre a praia – de tirar o fôlego! Ver aquela água cristalina e aqueles tons de azul. Parecia irreal. Ali ficámos um bom tempo a apreciar aquela paisagem.

Praia da Amália

 

Após a visita rápida à Zambujeira, continuámos o nosso caminho para sul, explorando diferentes lugares e praias. Passámos pelas linda praia dos Allteirinhos e Carvalhal e aventurámo-nos depois por estradas secundárias e de terra batida. fTudo para chegar ao local onde pretendíamos passar o dia: Praia da Amália. A Praia da Amália é uma pequena praia pouco explorada. Antes chamada de Praia do Brejão, o nome mudou depois para Amália para homenagear a fadista mais famosa de Portugal – Amália Rodrigues. A cantora tinha ali uma casa com vista para a praia. Nada mais nada menos que um belo lugar escondido, difícil de encontrar. Chegar lá é uma aventura, há que percorrer através de uma pequena floresta repleta de pequenos canaviais, rochas, ervas daninhas enormes e alguma lama. Diria que não é aconselhável levar crianças ou pessoas idosas para lá. Passei todo o caminho muito irritada por aceitar ir parar ali, resmunguei até ver a praia. Uma paisagem linda que valeu o sacrifício.

O lugar é incrível, como uma natureza selvagem intocada. É um local perfeito para passar um dia de praia a dois ou com alguns amigos. É um lugar muito tranquilo e bem protegido. A praia fica entre penhascos e, portanto, não há como chegar o vento. E a melhor parte: a cascata nas falésia, é um autêntico tesouro. Devo confessar que me recusei a ir pelo mesmo caminho de volta através daqueles canaviais (sou muito mariquinhas, eu sei!).Como resultado da minha teimosia, perdemo-nos. Tentámos explorar e passar por outro caminho através de uns campos hotícolas mas a coisa não estava a correr bem. Deu noutra outra aventura por mais de uma hora até que conseguimos encontrar a estrada principal para chegar ao carro. A dica é: por mais mariquinhas que se seja, há que voltar sempre pelo caminho que conhecemos. Nem sempre a aventura pode correr bem. Talvez, excepto se forem especialistas em encontrar caminhos alternativos.

COSTA VICENTINA – ALGARVE

No final do dia continuamos o nosso caminho até chegarmos à Costa Vicentina, que começa na fronteira entre o Alentejo e o Algarve. Passámos pela vila de Odeceixe e fomos espreitar a praia vizinha de Odeceixe Mar, onde não resistimos a ficar a ver o pôr-do-sol.

Aljezur // Anchor House

Com a luz do sol a desvanecer-se no horizonte, continuámos a Sul, passando por Aljezur e depois seguimos rumo à nossa segunda casa/alojamento: Anchor house. Uma linda guest house perto da praia da Arrifana. Um lugar incrível com um conceito encantador: uma surf house, onde temos o nosso próprio quarto e compartilham-se algumas áreas comuns (incluindo uma piscina) com os outros hóspedes. Os donos descrevem a sua casa como um lugar para fazer amigos e isso é totalmente verdade. Os donos são um casal adorável e tivemos a sorte de conhecer outros hóspedes com quem partilhámos jantares e conversas muito agradáveis.

Dia 4

O nosso quarto dia começou com um óptimo pequeno-almoço ao lado da piscina, o nosso boost de energia para mais um dia de praia. Logo depois do pequeno-almoço, passámos ainda pelo mercado de Aljezur para comprar algumas frutas para comer durante o dia.

Praia da Arrifana

Ainda não estávamos prontos para a praia sem o nosso café. Perto da praia da Arrifana, fomos então, antes da praia, a um café muito catita – Sea You Surf Cafe. Um café e uma Kombucha, que me deixou mega feliz para começar o dia, sendo que é uma bebida que adquiro facilmente na Dinamarca, mas não é tão fácil de encontrar em Portugal. Estávamos prontos para passar o nosso dia na praia da Arrifana. Por ali ficámos até ao fim do dia, onde ficámos a apreciar o pôr do sol no bar da praia com um cocktail para brindar àquele momento.

Monte Clérigo

A nossa noite foi passada num dos lugares mais mágicos onde já estive. Sabem quando se apaixonam por um lugar e não conseguem explicar porquê? Monte Clérigo é um desses lugares. É uma pequena aldeia ao lado da praia e havia ali algo especial que nos fazia sentir tão confortáveis que e em casa que não queríamos ir embora. A noite caiu e ficámos num bar ao lado da praia a beber uns copos enquanto ouvíamos um concerto de música ao vivo no exterior. Não poderia ter sido mais perfeito.

Dia 5

No quinto dia decidiram aparecer algumas nuvens e vento. Assim sendo, preferimos ficar pela “nossa casa” e passar o dia na piscina. Foi um dia mais calmo onde aproveitámos para ler um pouco.

Dia 6

Odeceixe

Era ainda manhã quando deixávamos a maravilhosa Anchor House. Antes de ir para o sul, ainda tivemos tempo para ir um pouco mais ao norte no mapa outra vez, para visitar a pequena vila de Odeceixe. Um lugar muito tranquilo com ruas estreitas e fachadas coloridas, perfeito para tirar algumas fotos.

Aljezur // Cervejaria do Mar

Voltámos para Aljezur para almoçar, num dos melhores restaurantes de marisco onde já estivémos: Cervejaria Mar. Foi-nos recomendado uns dias antes e contámos os dias até lá chegar.

O restaurante situa-se numa rua principal, por isso é fácil de encontrar. O atendimento foi adorável desde o início. Aquele marisco caiu como um presente dos deuses – entre percebes e camarões, tudo estava delicioso. E surpreendentemente barato. Sem sombrinha de dúvida, recomendo este lugar,  caso pretendam visitar esta zona. Nós, vamos voltar assim que possível.

Vale Figueiras Beach

Depois do almoço, continuámos nossa aventura, dando lugar à praia de Vale Figueiras, que fica a poucos quilómetros a sul de Aljezur. Esta praia situa-se um pouco longe estrada nacional (o caminho é por terra batida), mas também ali, está um paraíso escondido. Tem a particularidade de ter apenas uma pequena casa de pescadores no topo do penhasco com vista para a praia. É um local agradável e muito procurado para surfar, onde vão algumas escolas de surf. Normalmente não há muitas pessoas na praia, por isso é um local calmo, se para quem prefere estar na praia em paz a relaxar sem muito barulho.

Ali ficámos por algumas horas a aproveitar aquele lugar maravilhoso. Seguindo o nosso caminho algum tempo depois, passámos pela praia da Bordeira para uma espreitadela rápida. Onde encontrámos um cenário muito bonito. Passámos também pela pequena aldeia da Carrapateira – um lugar de paragem muito procurado por surfistas – onde desfrutámos de um café numa esplanada.

Lagos

Depois da Carrapateira, seguimos estrada e eis que rapidamente chegámos à costa Algarvia. Já escurecia quando chegámos a Lagos. Esgotados da viagem, chegámos finalmente ao último alojamento das férias. Um check-in rápido e um jantar e eis que caímos na cama.

Dia 7 e 8

O nosso sétimo dia de férias chegou e parecia que estava tudo a acontecer muito rápido. Ficámos fascinados com tantos lugares e cores ao longo da viagem, nem queríamos acreditar que as férias estavam a acabar.

Fomos cedinho para a linda e famosa praia da praia da D. Ana, onde passámos o resto do dia. Embora tivesse muita gente e um pouco de vento, nada atrapalhou o nosso dia de praia naquele lugar tão bonito.

À noite, fomos ao centro de Lagos para passear e visitar a cidade. Foi uma noite muito divertida, havia animacão pelas ruas cheias de bares, lojas e restaurantes; e muita gente bem disposta. É um óptimo lugar para passar alguns dias de férias, já que existem muitas praias diferentes por ali.

O nosso último dia de praia foi passado na praia de Porto de Mós. Tentámos aproveitar e apreciar ao máximo as nossas últimas horas de praia e voltámos para o Alentejo muito cansados e felizes por termos mais uns dias para aproveitar antes do vôo para a realidade. Muitas saudades de tudo isto.
